Distant Fellowship: William Morris Gallery
The Studio Carrom exhibition ‘Distant Fellowship’ explored and developed the connection between William Morris and South Asia. The first floor landing featured a reading space where visitors could explore alternative resources around Morris and South Asia in various community languages.
The space included examples of ‘Kolam’, a block-printed pattern designed by Studio Carrom, informed by sessions with local neighbouring Tamil community group and printed by block printers Tharangini Studio in Bangalore. The design based on Morris’s designs also included South Asian elements present in modern Walthamstow. Used to create a domestic-style space within the Gallery, the exhibition was recognised as an exemplar project by the London Mayors Office for Diversity ion the Public Realm.
We also created a publication documenting research around the project, designed and curated an alternative South Asian Guide to the William Morris Gallery and curated an artist intervention throughout the gallery.
